Johnston Road

Johnston Road is located right in the core of Wan Chai; redevelopment program is now under way in selected parts along it. Owing to its convenient location and high accessibility, it is a densely populated district with a lot of pre-war premises, it is thus not surprising that the Government induced redevelopment. Redevelopment is now contained in selected pockets in Wan Chai : Ship Street, Queen's Road East, Swatow Street, Lee Tung Street and part of the Spring Garden Lane. While great attempts are made to preserve premises with historic value (eg. pawn shop), there are bound to be loss, especially on the traces of the good old days. Example like Lee Tung Street, a place where printing and design house gathered, long-known to be the 'Wedding Card Street', will soon disappear.
